A common type of pre-cancerous lesion is Actinic Keratosis. These form on the skin as small rough spots that are easier to feel on the skin rather than to see. They often develop into larger rough patches that are red and scaly.
Most commonly these lesions are seen in areas exposed to UV light and develop on those who are fair skinned. Typically Actinic Keratosis is found on scalps, backs of hands, arms, shoulders, or any exposed area of skin.
If you have any of the following symptoms involving a lesion please schedule with a physician to be checked:
- Lesions that change from their original appearance
- Lesions that appear differently from your other moles
- Sores that have not healed within one or two months
- Any lesion that is worrisome to you in any way
